The night of Good Friday is covered with solemnity in Marchena. Christ already deceased on the cross parades through the streets followed by his grieving mother accompanied by Saint John the Evangelist who comforts her. Significant of this procession is its sepulchral silence and funeral songs in Latin.
The brotherhood of Santísimo Cristo de San Pedro, María Santísima de las Angustias and San Juan Evangelista dates back to the 16th century. It has canonical headquarters in the church of San Pedro Mártir (known as the church of Santo Domingo).
