Corpus Christi Marchena 2026

The Corpus Christi of Marchena, one of the town’s most important and deeply rooted traditions, was celebrated on June 4, 2026. Following the 8:00 AM votive mass, the procession began at 9:15 in the morning with the carráncano children leading the way, carrying bells to ward off evil spirits. They were followed by the children who had just made their first communion in each of the town’s three churches where it is celebrated (San Sebastián, San Miguel, and San Juan Bautista).

This year’s floats (pasos) were:

  • The Lost Child (El Niño Perdido).
  • Saint Angela of the Cross (Santa Ángela de la Cruz).
  • Immaculate Conception (Inmaculada Concepción).
  • Sacred Heart of Jesus (Sagrado Corazón de Jesús).

And finally, of course, the Monstrance by Francisco de Alfaro (a masterpiece from 1575-1580, predating even the Monstrance of the Cathedral of Seville), containing the Holy Body of Christ.

Relics were also part of the procession, such as the bone belonging to Saint Sebastian (patron saint of Marchena).

The María Santísima de la Palma bugle and drum band opened the procession, and the Castillo de la Mota music band closed it. The Marchena Brass quintet performed alongside the Immaculate Conception.

Some of the most significant symbols of Marchena’s Corpus Christi are the painted salt carpets made by the youth groups of the brotherhoods the night before, as well as the decorated facades and street altars.

This year, as a new feature, the transfer of the Immaculate Conception from the church of Santa Clara took place in a procession the night before.
