The first of the two Holy Thursday<\/strong> processions in Marchena is that of the Dulce Nombre de Jes\u00fas<\/strong> <\/em>(\u201cSweet Name of Jesus\u201d) and Mar\u00eda Sant\u00edsima de la Piedad<\/strong><\/em> (\u201cMost Holy Mary of Mercy\u201d). It features an allegorical figure representing Jesus as a child. The brotherhood was literally founded by a group of children; the earliest preserved rule book, dated 1599<\/em><\/strong>, celebrated its 425th anniversary in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the procession returned to an ancient route that had been abandoned for many decades, passing through the San Juan<\/em> neighborhood (\u201cSaint John\u201d), the Plaza de las Siete Revueltas<\/em> (\u201cSquare of the Seven Turns\u201d), and the Casa del Ave Mar\u00eda<\/em> (\u201cHouse of the Hail Mary\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accompanying the sweet Child Jesus is the band Dulce Nombre de Jes\u00fas<\/strong><\/em> (\u201cSweet Name of Jesus\u201d), while the Villa de Marchena<\/em><\/strong> (\u201cTown of Marchena\u201d) Musical Band plays for the Virgin of Mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
